Singapore’s National Day is coming up on August 9, and Gardens by the Bay — one of our favorite attractions in this garden city — is celebrating with a brand new display they’re calling “A Tale of Orchids”. But those of us who can’t travel there just yet can still take part in the celebrations, with a star-studded concert on television and social media, virtual workshops, and special promotions on Gardens by the Bay’s e-shop.
Here are five reasons to celebrate Singapore’s National Day with Gardens by the Bay:
1. A Tale of Orchids – A Story of Resilience
Be greeted by a colorful orchid display as you enter Flower Dome. A Tale of Orchids tells the story of resilience, and is overall curated as a celebration of the Singaporean spirit.
Spot Singapore’s national flower Vanda Miss Joaquim (Papilionanthe Miss Joaquim), as well as orchid hybrids cultivated by the Gardens’ own horticulturists such as the Aranda Gardens by the Bay. Also on display is an array of orchids from local nursery Toh Garden.
Besides orchid blooms, the display features a digital collection of orchid paintings by local artists, presented in collaboration with local arts charity The Very Quiet Studio. Each a unique depiction of Singapore’s national flower, the paintings are a token of appreciation to our healthcare professionals for their hard work in the fight against Covid-19.
2. National Day Ticketing Promotion
Gardens by the Bay will be rolling out special deals to celebrate National Day and its soon-to-reopen Cloud Forest conservatory.
Deal 1: Enjoy up to six months of unlimited visits to Flower Dome and Cloud Forest, and rides on the Shuttle Service, when you purchase a Two-Conservatories ticket at $20.
Deal 2: Enjoy 25% off One-Conservatory ticket and an additional $1 off when you purchase from the Gardens by the Bay mobile app
3. Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert 2020
The Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert will be shown on television and social media for the entire world to enjoy from the comfort of their own living rooms. On August 10, this one-hour program features performances by local artists as well as a rousing rendition of the all-time favorite National Day song “Home” by President Halimah Yacob, Mr Mohamed Abdullah Alhabshee and various performers. Spot Gardens by the Bay’s lush iconic locales such as the Supertrees, cooled conservatories and outdoor gardens in the video!
4. National Day e-Shop Promotion
Have you ever noticed an intricate batik-like pattern adorning many of the structures around the Gardens? This unique pattern takes inspiration from Singapore’s diverse cultures and flora and fauna. The pattern can also be found on some of the items in the Gardens by the Bay Merchandise Collection, including a reusable mask produced by a social enterprise as part of a community project in support of homebound and handicapped women in Singapore. Now you can enjoy up to 50% off the Gardens by the Bay Merchandise Collection (except Garden Library) as part of the Gardens’ National Day e-Shop Promotion.
5. Virtual Workshops for Plant Lovers
If you are looking to cultivate your green fingers, Gardens by the Bay is holding a series of virtual workshops for different ages, including the upcoming parent-child program “Eco Explorers! – Air Plant Madness” and gardening workshop “Grow with the Gardens”.
