New year, new you: How to nail Carla Florendo’s style

Macau-based marketing executive Carla Florendo, who blogs about fashion and lifestyle trends, tells us how to keep things fresh all year

Sneak it in

“Comfort is key and sneakers are my go-to. Opt for a basic colorway, like black, white, nude or tan and grey; these shades are easy to wear and they go great with most outfits.”

Mix and match

“For brighter styles, choose up to three colors and throw in hints of black and white. Prints are fun, too. To make it all work, pick out a color from the print and make it the strongest tone in your look.”

Sling it across

“Add an extra touch with a shoulder or cross-body bag. They up the casual-cool factor, are easy to manage and hold things that won’t fit in a cute clutch or purse.”

Finishing touches

“Try tousled hair or an up-do and go easy with the lip color — light-colored rouge is perfect for when you’ve got prints and stark or vibrant colors on.”

The new year brings new style inspiration. Here’s what we’re anticipating for 2018:

“Fresh, effortless looks. Think nude, dewy skin, with little contouring, matched with bright eye makeup or bold lips.” Ivan Rui Castillejos, image stylist

“Irregular shapes and cuts in menswear — like wide-leg trousers and hybrid ’80s and ’90s styles.” Pierre Elma, videographer

“Lightweight chambray pieces — paired with rompers or sundresses — in the summer, and brightly colored knitwear in the winter.” Kate Cenon, fashion and lifestyle blogger
