Stretch and surf at Lotus Shores Siargao
Bring the chill vibes to a whole new level at Lotus Shores Siargao, which is giving yoga a home in the island. “We want the values and teaching of yoga to become a part of how the island continues to grow, socially and economically,” says Louise Albano, owner of Lotus Shores.
This destination retreat offers volunteer and travel yoga holiday programs geared toward environmental preservation, education and agriculture.
Lotus Shores emphasizes on self-sustaining habits including growing their own food, harvesting and recycling rain water and operating on natural and renewable sources of energy.
Don’t miss the food at their in-house vegan restaurant, Kali Ma Café that serves a happy selection of whole-food and plant-based dishes.
Alongside your holiday, travelers are also invited to do volunteer work with Puppy Puddle Siargao and Kindred Connection, which is aimed at providing better conditions for cats and dogs in Siargao, through regular spay and neuter clinics, vaccinations and feeding.Lotus Shores Siargao; Purok 5 Poblacion, General Luna, Siargao; +63998 569 6928; fb.com/lotus shores
Sleep, eat, surf at Harana Surf Resort
Harana Surf Resort was, from the onset, geared towards sustainability, thanks to Stoke Certified, a US-based company that shared tools with business partners Ian Sumeriano and Mike Medina that allowed them to shape a unique surf resort model. This is apparent from the resort’s modern vernacular architecture designed by Tropiks Design Studio of Melvin Patawaran, as well as adding twists to local food and cuisine while promoting the local language.
What started as a ‘leap of faith’ from Manila-based surf enthusiasts have since become a drive to ensure that their resort is adding value to the paradise island through various community programmes aimed at cultural preservation. “We’re now working towards becoming the first certified Stoke Certified sustainable tourism surf resort in the country,” Mike says.
