In all of the rooms, glass bottles and containers are used for drinking water and minibar goods, while the bins, which are made of water hyacinth, come with reusable liners. Amenities are made from renewable materials such as bamboo and cotton, and are only available upon request to avoid wastage. Treeline is working with Plastic Free Cambodia to completely eliminate single-use plastics in its back-of-house operations and reach its goal of becoming the first plastic-free hotel in the country. This 25-room hotel, which occupies a beautifully renovated glazed-tile factory, is part of The Schoolhouse at Mutianyu, a sustainable tourism enterprise 90 minutes’ drive away from Beijing. Aside from taking steps to reduce its impact on the environment, which include composting organic waste, recycling, and growing many of the fruits and vegetables they serve on-site, the hotel helps sustain the community.
