Practice P.D.A. for Safe Trips, Says DOT

Remain "one basketball player apart" at all times, please

The Philippine Department of Tourism is encouraging Filipinos to travel — with Covid-19 safety in mind, of course.

In the past weeks, the DOT has launched several videos to promote domestic tourism, the first of which had singer Armi Millare from the band Up Dharma Down covering the Basil Valdez ballad “You” to remind travelers that their tourist pesos go a long way toward supporting people and communities all throughout the Philippines.

On “New Normal Travel: Dive In,” actors Beauty Gonzalez, Kim Molina, and Jun Sabayton demonstrate what safe travel looks like these days, calling for everyone to practice P.D.A. — Physical Distancing Always.

Social distancing calls for everyone to remain one “one basketball player apart” at all times, says the ad, which also reminds travelers to wear their masks and practice personal and environmental hygiene. That means regular hand sanitation, disposing of masks and other waste in proper receptacles, taking temperature checks and following  all other regulations.

The DOT’s video also lists a few fun and safe activities travelers can enjoy: “kayaking, running running on the beach, banana floating, water cycling, sand castling, jamming jamming, bisikleta-ing, jet packing, coconut watching, influencing, responsible shell picking, water bedding, synchronized swimming” and other activities that don’t require mass gathering.

A follow-up video in the series, “New Normal Travel: Dine In,” has similar reminders, but this time for people dining in restaurants.

The DOT also has SafeTrip, a microsite that contains all travel advisories and Covid-19 updates. SafeTrip includes a list of reopened destinations, accredited establishments and other announcements.
