Francine Gacrama and her sister Francesca were as green as you could imagine them to be when they took over the Mozaic Living furniture showroom along Pioneer Street in Pasig five years ago. Francine, the younger Gacrama, was a multimedia arts major, and was working in fashion publishing. Francesca, on the other hand, was more business-minded. Neither of them knew much about furniture at the outset, but the place and its potential called out to them.
Along the way, they roped in their brother to create a small café menu, and, determined to produce all their items in-house, they also brought in industrial designers. Gradually, their style grew into a beautiful amalgamation of native aesthetics and luxury finishes — think velvet and solihiya-weave chairs and giant, natural wood dining tables.
Having outgrown the space, they moved to Makati, under their brand’s current name, Artesania. Francine, who still works in publishing while she manages the business, has a love for all things local. As she travels around the country for business, she finds herself veering away from fast fashion and instead shops local brands — many of which are now stocked in Artesania.
As a busy boss lady with an eye for beautiful things, she’s the best person to offer advice on how to style a cool, professional look, just as the temperatures begin to rise.
