Lido Connect

Film, music, performance art and literature — and eating and shopping — are the main focus at Lido Connect, which opened its doors at the end of July. An unexpected revamp of the old Lido Cinema has turned it into a new creative space for live performances, exhibitions, film screenings and more.

Lido 1 is still a movie theater but is now managed by The Documentary Club, with a focus on classic and award-winning movies, as well as independent films and documentaries. Lido 2 is now called Live House, a venue for free shows by local rock and pop bands. Lido 3, meanwhile, is called Black Box, where performances, concerts, parties and art exhibitions will be staged. The rest of the two-storey space is occupied by quirky eateries and an array of oddball retail outlets. There’s even a local radio station, Flex 102.5. Open daily, 10am to 10pm; Siam Square, outside the Siam BTS station

Despite changing locations several times, Artbox remains one of Bangkok’s most popular outdoor art and lifestyle markets. In May, it found a new home for the rest of the year in Chuvit Garden, located between Asok and Nana BTS stations.

Inside the gates of the park, the trees are hung with fairy lights, and the vendors who have set up booths here range from indie clothing designers to stalls selling quirky souvenirs and — of course — all sorts of food. Live music is also part of the fun, and if you love craft beer there’s plenty to quench your thirst. For kids there’s a huge ball pool to jump around in, while for grown-ups there’s the second Bangkok branch of the Golden Axe Throw Club. Tossing a hatchet at a wooden target a few meters away may look dead easy, but it takes a while to get the hang of it. If you’ve got a question, just axe! Open daily, 4pm to midnight; Chuvit Garden, Sukhumvit 10 Alley, Khlong Toei;
