Good news for the students and parents navigating the new world of distance learning, as well as for the bookworms out there who just really miss book-hunting — Aklatan, a book fair featuring all-Philippine publishers, is going online from August 15 to August 18, 2020.

Organized by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), a local umbrella organization of individuals and organizations engaged in the book trade, Aklatan has moved shop from trade halls last year to Shopee this 2020. Readers sheltering at home can browse selections from forty different local publishers offering titles across various genres.

The Shopee Mall store pages of the participating local publishers:

“Let’s support our local authors and publishers at the first-ever all-Filipino digital book fair,” wrote BDAP on its Facebook page. “All your favorite local titles in one place at amazing discounts!”

As with last year’s Aklatan, readers are granted unprecedented access to a massive catalog from both mainstream local publishers and more independent outfits. This year’s digital iteration is seen by BDAP to broaden that access even more, as the move to Shopee has pushed more local publishing houses to offer online transactions at a time when social distancing is king.
