The jury has returned its verdict — Singapore’s über-sophisticated 28 HongKong Street, which is renowned for its flavor-focused tipples, has officially been crowned the best bar in the region, according to the inaugural Asia’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2016 (the first regional spin-off of the celebrated World’s 50 Best Bars shortlist). Taking second place is the speakeasy-style Speak Low in Shanghai, followed by the tiny High Five in Tokyo’s fashionable Ginza district.

Both Singapore and Hong Kong cemented their status as the drinking capitals of Asia, with nine bars apiece on the list. But hot on their heels is Tokyo, with eight entries, and Bangkok, with six (including Vesper at number 17).
